Engine Exhaust Silencers

Utility · Industrial · Critical · Hospital · Residential Grades — Diesel & Gas Engines

Universal Silencer manufactures a complete line of engine exhaust silencers for diesel and natural gas engines. Silencers are available in multiple attenuation grades to meet OSHA requirements, local noise ordinances, and project-specific noise targets. Both reactive (tuned chamber) and absorptive designs are available, as well as combination reactive/absorptive silencers for maximum insertion loss. All silencers are designed for the high-temperature, high-velocity exhaust service of reciprocating engines.

Attenuation Grades

Utility Grade~18–22 dB(A)

Basic noise reduction for applications where noise control requirements are minimal. Suitable for remote locations, temporary installations, or applications with no local noise ordinances. Lowest cost option.

Remote generator setsTemporary power installationsAgricultural applicationsMining and construction
Industrial Grade~25–28 dB(A)

Standard industrial noise reduction for most commercial and industrial applications. Meets typical OSHA requirements for worker noise exposure. The most commonly specified grade for stationary engine-generator sets.

Industrial generator setsStandby power systemsPump enginesCompressor engines
Critical Grade~30–35 dB(A)

High-performance noise reduction for noise-sensitive environments. Suitable for urban installations, hospitals, schools, and applications with strict local noise ordinances. Combines reactive and absorptive elements.

Hospital / Super Critical Grade~35–40 dB(A)

Maximum noise reduction for the most demanding applications. Designed for installations adjacent to noise-sensitive receptors where the lowest possible exhaust noise levels are required. Multi-chamber reactive/absorptive design.

Residential Grade~40+ dB(A)

Highest available attenuation for residential and ultra-sensitive applications. Typically used in conjunction with exhaust system insulation and other noise control measures. Custom-engineered for specific noise targets.
