Ball Type Sight Flow Indicators

THIS PRODUCT HAS BEEN DISCONTINUED - IT IS NOW OBSOLETE

Type 20-1340 Ball Flow Indicators are for measuring the rate of flow of water, air or any clear liquid or gas. These low-cost indicators with accuracy of +/- 7% F.S. feature a dual (water/air) scale fused to a borosilicate metering tube. A polycarbonate protection shield surrounds the metering tube to improve protection of personnel from flying glass in the event of tube failure at pressures up to 2-1/2 times the maximum rated pressure. Ball flow indicators are particularly well suited for flow measurement in coolant systems and for water treatment apparatus. Installed directly into a fluid line for use where flow direction is vertical up, the open construction permits observation from any direction.

Rate of flow is measured by the free vertical movement of a float on a guide rod installed in a tapered glass tube. When fluid flows into the inlet at the bottom, the free-moving float rises and assumes a position in the tube to create an annular space between the float and the tube. The greater the flow, the larger will be the annulus, and the higher will be the float. Using the proper reference point (varies with float design), the float position may be read as GPM or SCFM on the scale on the tube.

Rate of flow indicated on the scale may be affected by changes in specific gravity, viscosity, temperature, and in the case of gases, operating pressure. Standard, stock ball flow indicators are calibrated for water at 70°F and for air at 14.7 PSIA at 70°F. They can also be furnished with special scales, etched or fused on the tube in any desired units of flow, at any operating conditions within the capability of indicator. See Larger Image.
